She Looked Fine

Hi Reader

A few years ago, I remember sitting in my car after work with tears rolling down my face.

The strange thing? Nothing dramatic had happened.

I’d led meetings that day, made decisions, supported people...I'd ticked everything off my list.

From the outside, it had been a good day.

But inside, I’d spent hours questioning myself. Replaying conversations and wondering whether I’d said the right thing. Focusing on the one piece of challenging feedback instead of everything I’d done well.

At the time, I genuinely believed the problem was me.

I thought I needed to become more resilient, more confident, more capable.

What I later realised was that I wasn’t failing. I was operating under sustained pressure for so long that I’d started to mistake exhaustion for inadequacy.

And slowly over time, that changes how you see yourself.

What often happens is that capable leaders become incredibly good at performing competence while quietly carrying far more than anyone around them realises.

  • They keep delivering.
  • They keep supporting everyone else.
  • They keep telling themselves that once this busy period is over, things will settle down.

But another busy period always arrives.

Instead, taking a step back and understanding this gave me the clarity I needed to lead differently and this time with confidence as to who I am and the value I make.

  • Clarity builds confidence.
  • Confidence builds authority.
  • Authority allows you to lead authentically.

If any of this feels familiar, I wrote my latest blog for you.

In it, I explore why so many capable leaders quietly doubt themselves despite appearing calm and successful, why this isn’t a personal failing, and what understanding this pattern changes.

Know that you are good enough.

Because sometimes the most important shift isn’t working harder. It’s recognising that the system you’ve been operating in has been asking more of you than you ever stopped to notice.

I’d love to know what resonates with you after you’ve read it.

Kind regards,

P.S. You don’t have to wait until you’re burned out for your experience to be valid. Many leaders are still performing brilliantly while quietly carrying more than anyone can see.
