When did you stop trusting yourself?
|
Hi Reader, I'd like to tell you about Sarah. Sarah came to me at a career crossroads, feeling lost. The plan she'd made years earlier no longer felt right, she didn't know what she wanted instead, and she'd started to wonder whether she could do anything else at all. Before we talked about her future, we looked back. She drew a timeline of her roles, her promotions, the difficult times and the moments she enjoyed the most. She expected the pandemic to be the turning point for when things changed for her, but it wasn't. Years earlier, when the leadership team changed, she had started to change too - taking on less challenging work, copying another leader's style, saying yes to look dependable, and hiding her uncertainty because she believed senior leaders should have all the answers. Sarah realised she'd been adapting for years, and the timeline was the first time she could see it. For the first time, she believed she could find that version of her who she used to be. (Sarah is a fictional composite of the experiences I hear most often in my coaching conversations with leaders.) This is what October's blog is about: why capable leaders rarely know when they stopped trusting themselves, and a simple exercise to help you spot when things shifted, so you can stop assuming the problem is you. You can now read the October blog here on my website. I've also been busy building something new, too. I'm launching a free monthly online masterclass series. Each session is one hour, built around one theme, and designed to be practical and relaxed, so you leave with something you can actually use either for yourself, or for others you are leading. Our first session is on Tuesday 20 October at 6pm UK time. Exhausted, Not Broken: when did you stop trusting yourself? We'll build your own career timeline together, and you'll leave with a one-page map that turns "what's wrong with me?" into "what changed around me?" And if you develop leaders, I'll also give you the tools to run this exercise with your own leadership team. You can save your place here.
If this made you think of someone, please forward it on. Some of the people who look like they're coping are privately struggling, so this may help them with that. Hope to see you there. Niki Noo Coaching P.S. The masterclass series grows out of my book, Exhausted, Not Broken, which publishes soon. You can pre-register here for early access and some bonuses: Exhausted,Not Broken. |
